On 27.03., the ZLG is very honored to welcome Aqui Thami. Aqui is an Indigenous artist usually residing in Mumbai, and currently on a residency at Pro Helvetia, Switzerland. Her work spans a wide array of media – texts, images, spaces, boardgames – to examine the revolutionary as well as restaurative power of community.

In line with this artistic interest, Aqui is also the co-founder of India's first community-owned feminist library, Sister Library, situated in Mumbai. This «evolving and generative artwork», as she calls it, collects and displays publications and other printed materials powered by female excellence. In addition to the Mumbai site, the library also has what could be called a moving branch, the Travelling Sister Library, a globally moving library that collects printed materials that respond to the respective locality – where the travelling library resides at a given moment in time – and uses them to create and experimental reading room. In 2018, the Travelling Sister Library began, well, travelling, reaching Nepal, Dhaka, Tāmaki Makaurau, and now Zurich.

On 27.03., Aqui will talk with Angelika Malinar, Indologist at University of Zurich and member of its Gender Studies department, about the role of communities in feminist practice, with special focus on communities and identities of South Asia.

This event is open to the public.
